Dimensions of/in Perception
This project sets out to explore the nature of the various 'dimensions' in our world - in the context of human perception. This is a fundamental issue for both art and science.
Classical physics describes three dimensions while hypotheses such as String Theory predict there are in fact ten or eleven. As well as physicists, artists have long investigated perception and how to represent space and time in their works.
Neurology suggests that neuron trees "hard wire" how we are able to perceive our sensory experiences. Communication is limited if we fail to understand how the "hard wiring" works and the limitations it sets.
Electronic circuit boards mimic at a conceptual level the "hard wiring" of the brain and at the same time offer their own dimension of reality.
Artists Claude Heath and Andrew Carnie were commissioned by Global Eye Art to research and produce work for Dimensions of/in Perception.
The outcome continues to be fascinating and unexpected.
